Beat Depression With Five Blues Busters
by: Jim Brackin
It’s perfectly natural for everyone has periods when they feel down. Bad moods are simply a part of life and some would say that they help you to appreciate the good times. But depression is something quite different. One sign of depression is that your ‘down time’ goes on for more than a couple of hours per day. The other is if you have two or more of the symptoms on a consistent or regular basis: Low Self-Esteem, Fatigue, Sleep Problems, Appetite Changes, Weight Swings, Feelings of Guilt, Worthlessness, Suicide or a general loss of interest in your normal activities. Then consider doing something to break the cycle and get out of it, below are five things you can do right now to effect a change in how you feel.
Change your posture. There is a definite body posture that triggers or deepens depression. The signs are, moving slowly or lethargically, shoulders slumped, head down looking at the ground. These postures are known to increase negative thoughts and emotions. When you break out of this posture - even by doing something as simple as looking up towards the sky or jumping up and down - you interrupt this pattern and change your way of thinking.
Fruitceuticals - The Evolution of Fruit
July 30, 2009
Since the beginning of time, everyday fruits have been known to help maintain a healthy body. The popular "5-A-Day for Better Health" is a national program encouraging Americans to increase their daily servings of fruit and vegetables to five or more per day.
While each fruit is good for you, most offer a specific natural health benefit. For example, research indicates that Montmorency tart cherries contain over 17 natural compounds including antioxidants, some of which can provide natural relief for joint pain caused from gout, arthritis and inflammation. The list of health benefits obtained from Montmorency tart cherries is impressive indeed!
Researchers believe that the joint pain relief delivered by tart cherries may not come from a specific antioxidant in the fruit, but may come from the synergistic effect of all its natural compounds. Tart Cherries may be 10 times stronger than Aspirin or Ibuprofen in relieving arthritic pain. In addition, Montmorency tart cherries naturally contain the popular antioxidant, melatonin. Melatonin helps to maintain wakefulness during the day and sleepiness during the night.

Speech Course For a Stutter
by: Steve Hill
This article describes the type of stutter speech courses which are available. In general they are designed to help people who stutter to achieve fluency.
During the first couple of days of the course, this is where the stutter speech coach normally describes the techniques which are required to overcome the stutter.
The first day is normally the most important day. This is the client’s easy day, as the coach will do most of the talking, explaining in detail around half of the speech rules required to beat the stutter. They are likely to ask the client to talk about their history, including information about how their stutter started, about their family, about their interests, plus any other information they would like to disclose for example, where they work. The client will have at least one further speech task on this first day, which they will be asked to complete after they have heard the first set of rules.
On the second day the client becomes more involved, starting to put into practice what they have learnt from the previous day. The final speech rules are taught on this day.

Use Ginkgo Biloba to Starve Off Alzheimer’s and Dementia
by: Rudy Silva
Dementia, Alzheimer’s, and other mental diseases are accelerated by the,
* The lack of blood to the brain
* The lack of oxygen to the brain
* The lack of minerals and vitamins to the brain
* The lack of glucose to the brain
* Increase of toxins to the brain.
The lack of blood to the brain is caused by arteriosclerosis - plack buildup along the arteries causing them to narrow. Arteriosclerosis occurs when you have a diet that causes damage to the artery walls promoting cholesterol and other minerals and nutrients to patch up the damage. Over time, as this patching continues, this area will become narrow and in some case blocks the flow of blood.
As early as possible it is always recommended that you research what a health diet is. Find a diet that will minimize damage and inflammation in your body. Starting a healthy diet at any age is helpful but the sooner you start the better.

Use Iron and B Vitamins To Improve Your Brain Activity
by: Rudy Silva
Iron and Dementia
In the US iron deficiency has been found to be a major problem in people of all ages. Everyone knows the lack of iron causes anemia. Iron is the center of our red blood cells, which allow oxygen to be carried throughout your body and into your brain. Your brain uses over 20% of the oxygen available in the blood. Lack of oxygen has a major impact on your brain’s health and in the formation of dementia.
When a person is deficient in iron, they may have difficulty in keeping a conversation or in keeping a good attention span.
The actual ability to absorb iron into your body is dependent on the amount of acid you have in your stomach. If you have acid reflux or heartburn and are using drugs or antacids to get relief, you are affecting your ability to absorb iron.
To absorb iron, the pH in your stomach has to be normal, 1 - 2 pH. Under these conditions, iron in your stomach chemically reacts with other chemicals and is prepared for absorption in the small intestine.

The Politics Of Massage Therapy: Alternative Treatment or Mainstream Therapy?
by: Terry McDermott
I tend to view massage therapy independently of broader categories of therapy, healing or other restorative practices or systems. I am inclined to do this because I am cautious about allowing massage to be classified as a traditional therapy versus an alternative therapy.
There are many practitioners who cringe when they see massage therapy lumped in with “alternative” practices such as acupuncture, chiropractic or naturopathic health. To some these smack of quackery, fakery or, in some cases, lunacy. I believe that this aversion to association with alternative medical practices is extreme but I concede that a massage therapy purist could develop such a phobia.
On the other hand, more open-minded massage therapists abhor associating massage exclusively with clinical practices such as physical therapy or other forms of rehabilitation. There is some resentment towards the incorporation of massage therapy into traditional medicine only because they feel that massage may be viewed as simply a procedure. This view strikes me as a bit vindictive but given the historical view of the mainstream medical industry towards the alternative medical community, some bitterness can be expected.
Nutrition Know-how: Seven Simple Ways to Eat Healthier (with Strawberry Orange Sorbet Recipe)
July 25, 2009
The key to better health is learning the difference between healthy and unhealthy nutrients. The choices we make greatly affect our health. Making a few simple healthy and nutritious changes in our dietary choices can have a profound and positive impact on our health, well-being, energy levels and life span. For instance . . .
? Healthy proteins provide the amino acids our bodies require to build and repair lean body mass (like muscles, skin, hair and nails), and are low in saturated fat, cholesterol and chemicals. Good sources include wild salmon, beans, legumes, soy products (tofu, tempeh, TVP), seeds (sunflower, pumpkin), nuts (walnuts, almonds, peanuts) and peanut butter.
? Unhealthy proteins are loaded with saturated fat, cholesterol, hormones, or antibiotics (like beef, lamb, beacon and sausage). While they give your body the needed amino acids, they also clog arteries and compromise your immune system.
? Healthy fats are unsaturated fats (mono and poly), omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids. Good sources of these fats include extra virgin olive oil, canola oil, ground flax seeds and walnuts. They help your body absorb fat-soluble antioxidant micronutrients like vitamins A, E, D, and K, and lycopene.

Warning: Herbal Remedies Have Health Benefits
by: Wayne McDonald
Most of us want fast results when we are sick and miserable. Typically people buy non-prescription drugs over the counter because they don’t know there are other treatments available. For many health conditions using herbal remedies derived from plants is a healthy alternative. It is best to plan ahead and learn which herbal remedies may work for a specific health condition.
The following list of common herbs is an example of possible health benefits for treating some ailments. Herbal remedies are prepared in many forms such as teas, herbal extracts (tinctures), capsules or loose/dried in a bag.
Chamomile
This herb is popular as a tea and can calm nerves, relieve stomach distress, prevent ulcers, and help fight infection. Chamomile may be used to relieve morning sickness during pregnancy, to treat gastritis and ulcerative colitis, and may be used to speed healing of skin ulcers, wounds, or burns.
Dong Quia
Dong quai has been used in Asia for thousands of years as a tonic for the female reproductive system. It also balances and strengthens the female organs and regulates their functions.

Weight Loss Tip : Don’t Let them Profit from You!
by: Janice Elizabeth Small
Food can be wonderful or plain awful. At its best, it nourishes us, gives us energy and delights our taste buds. At its worst it clogs up our arteries, fills our bodies with unwanted toxins and makes us fat.
The secret of losing weight is to choose the delicious natural healthy kind and to eat just enough of it so you feel great.
But with so much awful food on offer out there, it’s easier said than done.
No one is paying huge sums to advertise fresh fruit and vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds and organic lean meat.
Instead we have major food manufacturers with big budgets pushing snacks we can do without and products loaded with thickeners, sweeteners, salt, corn syrup, mechanically recovered meat, preservatives and every other semi-edible chemical known to man.
Sure, the food tastes Ok - after all it’s full of sugars (or artificial sweeteners) and salt for that very reason. Food manufacturers aim to bring you palatable food otherwise you wouldn’t buy it. But it has to turn in a huge profit too so they pile in preservatives to give it a long shelf life and use the cheapest ingredients they can get away with, padding them out with fillers. But is that really how you want to nourish your body?
