Living with Asthma
by: David Drinkall
If you have asthma, managing it is an important part of your life. Controlling your asthma means staying away from things that bother your airways and taking medicines as directed by your doctor. If you have asthma, it is important to learn how to take care of yourself.
MAKE AN ACTION PLAN WITH YOUR DOCTOR
It is important that you work with your doctor to make an action plan that you are both happy with. As part of this, you will need to:
* Tell your doctor about all other medications and drugs you are taking, in case one of them affects your asthma.
* Follow your asthma action plan and have regular checkups.
* Learn to use your medication correctly. Ask your doctor to teach you how to use your inhaler. This is very important. If inhalers are not used correctly, less medication gets into the airways.
* If you are having problems taking your asthma medicine, seek your doctor’s advice immediately.
IDENTIFY YOUR ASTHMA TRIGGERS
You also need to learn to identify and avoid the things that can worsen or trigger your asthma symptoms.
Policosinol and Cholesterol Reduction
May 30, 2009
The word cholesterol has become synonymous with poor health. Indeed, one does not typically hear the word used, or see it printed, unless it points to yet another distressing fact — that high cholesterol is the number one factor for coronary heart disease, and the number one cause of heart attacks[i].
However, cholesterol is, in itself, not a negative thing. On the contrary, cholesterol plays a vital role in forming cell membranes, regulating hormones, insulating nerves, and more. The problem with cholesterol therefore lays not in cholesterol itself, but the amount of cholesterol present in the bloodstream. For most Americans who talk and read about this subject, the scenario almost always involves too much cholesterol, or the condition known as hypercholesterolemia.
When there is too much cholesterol in the blood, it cannot easily dissolve, and thus cannot effectively be transported to cells by the carrier called low-density lipoprotein (LDL). This can create a build-up of LDL cholesterol (a.k.a. "bad cholesterol"), and start to interfere with arteries that transport blood to the heart and brain. Both a stroke and a heart attack are the most severe manifestations of LDL cholesterol build-up, and the main reason why so many people are seeking ways to reduce the LDL build-up in their bloodstream[ii].
Does Nitric Oxide Really Work? A Nitric Oxide Supplement Review

Does Nitric Oxide Really Work? A Nitric Oxide Supplement Review
by: Blake Bissaillion
Lately, I’ve been hearing alot of buzz about No2 and it’s possible effects on building muscle.
No2 has been around for a couple of years and there has been plenty of people who have tried this particular supplement with mixed results.
For those of you who don’t know what N02 is, let me give you a bit of background.
No2 stands for nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is supposed to relax the smooth muscle in the walls of very small arteries called arterioles.
When a muscles contracts and it’s blood vessels are dilated, a “puff” of gas appears for a brief instant and than dissapears. This gas
settles into the underlying smooth muscle cells causing them to relax which allows a surge of blood to pass through more easily.
This gas is called nitric oxide.
You see, everytime you do a couple sets of curls and you feel that expanding feeling in your bicep, it means that nitric oxide was released

7 Simple Steps To Beginning Bodybuilding (Part 1 of 2)
by: Marc David
When I was 16, I asked myself this very same question that I received from a frustrated 16 year old. It went something like this…
“A Little Help Please! I am 16 and I am VERY skinny! I don’t have much fat on me so… you could almost see my bones if I am not wearing anything baggy. I only weight 105 lbs and I know I am tooth pick mainly because I don’t eat too much.” - Frustrated and Skinny
You have NO IDEA of how close that cry for help sounds like me. When I was 16, I took a picture of myself in front of the family Christmas tree. Somehow I convinced my sister to take the picture and I flexed with all my might.
For those who are curious to see what I really did look like, the picture is at:

Scroll down. You’ll see it. It’s 100% un-edited. I didn’t even remove the glow in the dark plastic eagle necklace I found somewhere.
Fear Of Death And Darkness Phobia

Fear Of Death And Darkness Phobia
by: Steve Hill
Fear of the dark also known as Nyctophobia is common among young children who often fear that something catastrophic may happen to them in the night. In the darkness, we can’t see very well, and for a young child, particularly one with a healthy imagination, this can be very frightening. A pervading sense can build that something sinister is just out of sight and arm’s reach waiting for its moment to strike.
As a young child, I used to suffer from this phobia, as a result of which my mother used to leave the landing light on for me to provide a calming relief from the darkness. My parents also used to ask me questions to make me elaborate on my fears. By doing this, they showed concern and sympathy, while at the same time making it very clear that they were not afraid. In this way, parents can be of great use to their children.
The fear lessened as I grew older, then went away altogether. Most children as they grow up and the world around them becomes more logical and less fantastic, come to realise that they are quite safe in the darkness and their fears were irrational.

Advice for Healthy Living in 2006
by: Anna Fleet
With the New Year now upon us, it’s important to give pause and consider making some positive changes regarding the state of your health. As they say, there’s no time like the present. People the world over often make resolutions to do something to better themselves in the coming year. In 2006, consider doing something that will benefit your overall health. The following suggestions may just help to ensure that you’re able to make New Year’s resolutions for many years to come.
Get a Check-up - An excellent place to start when considering lifestyle changes is with an honest assessment of your health. At this stage, it wouldn’t hurt to consult with your physician. Why not make an appointment for your annual physical exam? This way, you can begin the year with an accurate assessment of your physical state. Your doctor will be able to focus your attention on areas that are of immediate health concern. This is especially important if you’re a smoker, if you’re overweight, or if you have any significant health issues that might prevent you from performing simple daily tasks.

The Way You Perform Your Workout Program
by: Terje Brooks Ellingsen
Workout or exercise is important both for your body and mind but have you ever considered how you’re actually doing your workout program? Whatever you do, if you are involved in a sport or activity that has potential for injury, specifically head injury, use the proper equipment no matter what anyone else tells you. For example, if you are involved with skateboarding and this is how you stay in shape, good for you! However, you need to wear protective gear such as a helmet, gloves, knee guards, etc. Most people think that something significant has to happen in order to get a head in jury. Unfortunately, that is a huge misconception. The truth is that falling one foot onto the pavement and hitting your head is enough to cause serious injury or death. This is the time to put your pride aside and think of safety first.

Unhealthy Foods: Five Sneaky Foods Revealed
May 25, 2009
With the array of different diets and diet foods available to help with weight loss and health, it’s sometimes hard to figure out what’s healthy and what’s not. Of course, part of the problem is that people have different health needs: for example, while fruit juice is often a good source of vitamins and other nutrients, some people with diabetes may find that some fruit juices have more sugar than they can tolerate. So what sounds healthy may not be healthy for you. How to tell? Look past the advertising to get label-savvy and nutrition aware so that you can avoid sneaky foods that seem like a good idea but may clash with your health needs.
Check out these examples:
1) Bottled waters: Water seems like the one thing on earth that has to be natural? But many bottled waters, even ones promoted by athletes, may contain things besides water, including minerals and salts. Some bottled waters contain a big chunk of sodium, so if you’re on a low-sodium diet, check that label before you buy.
