Weight Lifting Exercises & Their Affect On Different Muscle Fibers
by: Patrick Mckeeman
Weight lifting exercises cause your muscles to generate heat and strength. Your muscles need to be strong, in order to help you move, breathe and so on.
This article on weight lifting exercises will look at the relationship between the exercises you use when weight lifting and your muscles.
Your actual muscle tissue is made up of 2 types of muscle fibers, actin, which are a slim fiber and myosin which are substantially thicker. Both of these fiber types help to give your muscles a striated look about them.
When performing any exercises used in weight lifting the muscle being exercised must be able to contract properly. To do this they need to become stimulated by motor neurons. These are simply nerves.
One motor neuron and the muscle fibers stimulated during exercises used during weight lifting activities are called a motor unit. These motor units or muscle fibers play a large part in the force your muscles can produce during a contraction.
The more motor units you can activate during your weight lifting exercises the stronger the contraction. Meaning you’ll be able to lift a greater amount of weight for an increased number of repetitions.

What is Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder?

Help I am Pregnant and an Addict
April 28, 2009
There are a lot of resources on the internet, in books, and from the medical community on the dangers of drug and alcohol use during pregnancy. However, there is not very much quality information on what you should do if you have a problem with alcohol or drugs and are pregnant. The simple answer is you need to quit. With all the treatment programs availabele; AA, treatment facilities, therapy, self-control, etc., why wouldn’t a women be able to get help. Why would anyone use drugs or alcohol while they are pregnant. Most pregnant moms know or have read that using drugs or alcohol can cause numerous problems for their unborn baby. But there are many reasons women avoid treatment.
Some do not believe they are really an addict or alcoholic. They may convince themselves that they don’t drink or use very much or that often. The truth, if you are not capable of quitting during a time in your life when it is most essential that you do not drink or use, you are an addict. If you were not addicted quitting during pregnancy would not be difficult.
Healthy Food Tastes Better!
April 27, 2009
How is it that we can’t seem to think that something nutritious and healthy could in fact be tasty and enjoyable? Ever since I started to eat healthy food I have discovered new tastes, new flavours and new favourites. I do it almost daily. When I stopped looking at meat as the main ingredient of a meal I found a hundred new ways to prepare a good meal. I did not exclude meat completely, only the kinds that contain saturated fat. I continued to eat chicken, turkey and fish. (Chicken has its fat in the skin, so you can cut it off.) I eat vegetarian dishes at least three days a week, and the veg food has become my favourite food. Why? Because it tastes so good and the food is so easy to vary. I can’t think of a life without it anymore. It would be a poor life. This food is a treasury and it has given me energy and strength that I did not have before.
The benefits are plenty. You will feel spry and lively again. You will lose weight. You will strengthen your immune system and stay well longer. You will lower your blood pressure. I could go on.
I am a notorious tea drinker, and I loved all kinds of black teas. The taste of green tea didn’t appeal to me, I found it bitter. But I discovered several kinds of green tea that I have learned to enjoy and I now drink it every day. It’s actually become "my cup of tea".

Skin Care Problems & Solutions
by: Ken Black
Skin care problems, like sagging skin, wrinkles, brown spots, acne, rosacea, dry skin, or aging skin can affect your appearance and how others think about you. More importantly, it can affect how you think about yourself. Here are some solutions to those problems.
Lisa used to love going out on the town with friends every once in a while. It sure was a great stress reducer. But, then, Lisa started to experience skin problems, like skin blemishes (possibly from all that sun exposure earlier in life) and some wrinkles around the eyes (you can’t stop aging you know) and elsewhere. It seemed like co-workers and others didn’t talk to Lisa the same anymore and they didn’t want to go out with her as much. What the heck was happening here ?
What Happens to So Many People
Lisa’s confidence dropped quickly and so did her overall looks. She stopped dressing smartly and professionally. She stopped exercising and for some reason, didn’t care what she ate either. Within a few months, Lisa started to feel quite ill and started missing work, not to mention how older she looked. What was she to do ? A trip to her doctor was a good starting point.

What Is Reasonable Weight Loss?
by: Carol Walsh
If you read ads in the newspaper, watch infomercials on TV or click on internet pop-ups, you’d assume that quick and easy weight loss is a piece of cake. “Lose 10 pounds in two weeks,” “Lose 10 pounds in 10 days,” and “Lose 10 to 18 pounds in less than six weeks” are just a few of the claims that set our expectations for the task of melting away extra fat. But are those results really possible?
According to the National Institutes of Health and the American College of Sports Medicine, one to two pounds a week is considered safe and appropriate weight loss. This guideline is often cited by the medical community to help dieters lose body fat without also losing lean mass and to avoid dehydration. Safe may be well and good, but one to two pounds a week sure sounds wimpy compared to what the weight loss industry has to offer!

Diabetes in Children is on the Rise
by: Martin Grandley
Diabetes! Why Must So Many Children Suffer?
Diabetes, the body’s inability to metabolize sugar properly,
is something that most people have to just live with for the
rest of their lives. You can control it, of course, with
proper diet and by taking medication. But the fact that an
increasing number of young children and adolescents are
prone to it nowadays is a cause for concern.
It is not surprising that with the increase in the number of
overweight children and growing obesity problems diabetes
too is growing proportionately. Lesser physical activity
among children Children these days is also creating health
problems.
Physical Inactivity, Extra pounds and Stress
Being overweight doesn’t help. The extra burden those extra
pounds put on your body weaken its response and ability to
handle stress. And this kind of stress increases manifold,
especially when your body is still growing, and is yet to
achieve full size.
These extra pounds come from a life of physical inactivity
in children, too much time sitting at the computer and at

What Can You Do About Depression! The St John Alternative
by: Stephen Gainsly
Using St. John’s Wort to treat Depression
Depression comes in many forms and with the overabundance
of anti-depression drugs currently available, it is often
tricky for doctors to prescribe the right one for their
patients.
Some patients suffer from a mild depression, also known as
dysthymic depression. This includes symptoms of sadness and
a loss of interest in activity. Many times this kind of
depression goes unnoticed and untreated, but can last for
many years.
Other types of depression include major depression and
bipolar depression. There are others as well, and can
include disorders relating to pregnancy and traumatic
events.
A lot of the medications used to treat depression include
complicated chemical balances that need to be adjusted to
the particular patient, and can also have multiple physical
and emotional side effects. Some patients report feeling
worse after having taken traditional medications or they
report needing to switch from medicine to medicine as one
wears off and becomes less effective.
So what does a person with depression do? What does a
