by: Lynn VanDyke
Consumers may soon be able to purchase a brand new over the counter weight loss pill. Federal health advisors have already given their go ahead, but it still needs FDA approval before it goes on sale nationwide. GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare is in position to offer this fat blocking pill to the public. They are shooting for a release date by the end of this year.
Consumers want to know if this is ground breaking news or if this is another attempt to rob them of their hard earned cash. The difference between this new diet pill, called orlistat and currently being sold with a doctor’s prescription as Xenical, and several others from the past are that orlistat is garnering nationwide media and public interest.
“Everyone is getting excited about taking a magic pill,” states Lynn VanDyke, elite personal fitness professional and fitness nutritionist. “It all sounds brilliantly simple until we read about its side effects and cost.”
In 6 month clinical trials, obese people taking orlistat lost 5.3 - 6.2 pounds more than those given a placebo. Representatives from GlaxoSmithKline also announced that at $12-$25 per week for the pill over 5 million people in America would buy the drug if it sold over the counter.

What is a Healthy Eating Plan?
January 29, 2009
Healthy eating is important for everyone, from babies to the elderly. Learning to eat well is more than just eating a variety of foods so that your body gets the proper nutrients. It is also about enjoyment of foods and maintaining a healthy weight. Anyone can eat for good health. It involves 2 simple steps. First is to eat foods from all the different food groups. The second step is to eat a variety of foods from each group every day. Sounds simple. However so many people are not following a healthy eating plan. Busy lifestyles, availability of fast food, advertising and a lack of understanding of what healthy food is, all work against people trying for healthier eating. Unhealthy eating causes illness and weight problems. Type 2 diabetes is increasing dramatically and is directly linked to the increase in obesity. Heart disease and some cancers are also linked to obesity.
A study by the Medical Journal of Australia found that 56% of Australian adults are considered overweight or obese. This is a 61% increase in obesity since 1991 Un-treated obesity poses significant, even life-threatening health risks.

Pain Relief from Neck and Shoulder Pain My Top 5 Favorite Ways
by: Wendy Young
When you are experiencing neck and shoulder pain at your computer, there are simple actions you can take to help you feel better.
It is very important to understand how your body reacts with the design of your computer work area. Of equal concern is choosing products to help you rather than create additional pain. It can be just as simple as adjusting or rearranging your equipment and furniture.
Monitor Height Placement
If you bend your neck back to see the monitor, it is too high. If you bend your neck down, your monitor is too low.
Let your head rest naturally and it will tilt slightly forward. You have left the office too many times with sore muscles!
When looking straight ahead, your line of sight is the imaginary horizontal line from your eyes to the screen. Your eyes naturally gaze down 15 - 20 degrees below your line of sight. Adjust the height to easily view the information on the screen where your eyes naturally gaze.

Exploring Treatment Options for Patients with Autism
Although there is no known cure for autism, a combination of specialized treatment and education programs can often help many patients. The most common autism treatment options involve both occupational and physical therapy. Occupational therapy helps improve independent function and teaches patients basic skills such as buttoning a shirt or bathing - while physical therapy involves using exercise and other physical measures such as using massage and heat in order to help patients control body movements.
Other common autism treatment options include:
” Behavior modification
” Communication therapy
” Dietary modifications
” Medication
Behavior modification:
There are several methods of behavior modification that are used to treat autistic patients. Most behavior modification principles are based on the theory that rewarded behavior is more likely to be repeated than behavior that is ignored. For instance, Sensory integration therapy is a type of behavior modification that focuses on helping autistic patients cope with different sensory stimulation. The treatment may include having the patient handle materials with different textures or listen to different sounds.

Health Club Secrets — 5 Monster Tips for Choosing a Health Club
by: Brad Howard
With the New Year coming in, people by the droves put their
New Year’s resolutions in gear. For many health clubs, the
month of January marks the easiest time of the year to entice
and underdeliver the hopes and desires of the unsuspecting
public.
Now, of course, that’ll never happen to you……..will it?
For the type of person that continually gets wrapped up in the
“deal of the day,” it most certainly will. Most people have
no idea what the telltale signs of a great health club operation
are.
Naturally, many clubs know this and fully take advantage.
Does it really make sense for all of the area clubs to offer the
most “specials” in the month where the overall demand
reaches its peak?
What other successful industry does this?
Not one that I can think of.
Understand that many clubs encourage you to join in the
months of January and February knowing full well that you
not be frequenting the place in two months.
Why Do People Smoke Cigarettes?

Why Do People Smoke Cigarettes?
by: Adam Waxler
Obviously, smoking cigarettes is dangerous to your health. According to various studies on the effects of cigarette smoking, it is responsible for one out of every five deaths in the U.S. and is the most addictive and destructive over-the-counter drug known to man.
With all these known facts on the effects of cigarette smoking one may wonder why people still smoke cigarettes.
The history and culture surrounding cigarette smoking dates back to before World War I. During this time tobacco was smoked mostly in the form of cigars and primarily by the wealthy. Cigarettes, which are basically leftovers of the cigar making process, were smoked by the less fortunate. The number of people who smoked cigarettes boomed when the tobacco companies started to mass-produce cigarettes. Their cigarette smoking clientele: soldiers of World War I.
While inhaling smoke into your lungs is obviously unhealthy, it took some time before the true effects of smoking cigarettes became well known. It wasn’t for another 20 to 30 years after WWI that doctors first noticed the increase in lung cancer. With this increase, Reader’s Digest published an article “Cancer by the Carton,” which prompted the public to be aware of the effects of cigarette smoking. Since then, extensive medical studies have now proven the correlation between cigarette smoking and lung cancer.

Have We Won The Fight Against Hair Loss?
by: Will Cortes
The thought of going bald has always been a private nightmare for most men. We dare not think of it. Maybe just the thought would cause our hair follicles to shrivel up and die.
It’s the 21st century and we’re no closer to defeating the common cold much less hair loss. Or are we closer? Let’s take a look at the facts first.
1. If you’re going bald there’s a 95% chance it’s hereditary.
2. Minoxidil and Propecia are the only FDA approved drugs to treat hair loss.
3. Neither Minoxidil or Propecia is 100% guaranteed to work.
4. By doing nothing your 100% guaranteed to continue losing hair.
Those are some pretty harsh realities. I rather get the bad news outta the way first. Since DHT is responsible for causing hair loss we’ll look at ways to slow down it’s production.
NATURAL TREATMENTS:
A. Green Tea - Thought to effect the 5a-reductase type I enzyme, which converts testosterone to DHT.
B. Flax Seed Lignans - Is suggested to have beneficial effects on hair loss
Fighting Burn-out: Natural Help For Stress, Fatigue and Adrenal Insufficiency
January 24, 2009
The adrenal or "stress glands" are small, triangular shaped glands located on the top of the kidneys. Their function is to prepare the body’s resources to run or fight through the releasing of specific hormones. When this primitive, instinctive response is activated, blood is diverted from digestive system while our blood pressure, pulse, blood sugar levels increase. At the same time, our pupils dilate and the speed of reflexes increases. All of this happens as a way to ensure our survival.
In modern times, we don’t’ have to worry about becoming dinner for a hungry tiger or being trampled by a herd of buffalo. Our bodies, however, automatically respond the same way when we are under physical, emotional or mental stress. Many of us live in a state of constant stress that strains our bodies to the point of exhaustion. Over time, and through repetition, this can impact the way the adrenal glands function, causing us to experience adrenal insufficiency or "burn-out".
