Independent Review of the Myself Pelvic Floor Exercise Device
 by: Bradley Porter

A customer recently contacted me regarding the Myself pelvic floor exercise device with biofeedback. I feel her independent review of this product is beneficial to anyone considering pelvic floor exercises with biofeedback as a conservative treatment modality for stress or urge incontinence. I will mention her only by her initials (PH) in this brief synopsis of her feelings about the Myself. PH, has been suffering from urge incontinence or overactive bladder for some years now, and has undergone clinical biofeedback training previously to better educate her on how to effectively strengthen her pelvic floor muscles. She is referring to kegelcompare.com when she refers to an unnamed website in her comments.

She purchased the Myself for the following stated reasons:

“Needed to improve my pelvic floor (muscle strength). ( I ) had used a device in physiotherapy, which gave visual feedback and told me when and how long to contract and relax the muscles for, and found it an enormous help in doing the exercises. I considered getting a different device as your web site suggested this one was for someone with low to middle strength, and I didn’t think I was so bad… but it has been perfect.”

Itchy Skin Relief - Natural Remedy Worked Perfectly For My Itchy Skin !
 by: Keiko Entwistle

Are you suffering from itchy skin ?

I know the feeling how terrible it is and makes you feel frustrated.

I had been suffering from allergies since my childhood. Asthma, sinusitis, skin problems especially for itchy skin for a long time.

I grew up in Tokyo, Japan and every winter season, I had to go to see a doctor to get some drugs and treatment cream for the itchy skin. During spring season, I was suffering from my hay fever, and during autumn season my asthma always appeared.

Going to see doctors and taking drugs were two of my life’s habit.

However, all the drugs worked only in the beginning, and I needed to take them often to kill the itch and other allergies.

Especially, while I was sleeping, the itches made me crazy because the drugs and cream didn’t help me.

I could not stop scratching everywhere even though I knew it would make it worse.

I had no idea that I could cure my itchy skin.

Rediscovering Protein - Corrective Action in the American Diet

June 12, 2008

Protein must be a part of a healthy diet for a simple reason: it is essential for life. Every single cell in the human body — including bones, blood, skin, chemicals, and enzymes — depend on protein for effective operation.[i]

Yet while Americans are more health-conscious than ever before, the national health dialogue continues to be dominated by a cynical theme: malnutrition. Many Americans are suffering the ill-health effects of a diet that is too high in saturated fat[ii], carbohydrates[iii], and calories[iv], while severely lacking in protein.

This wave of malnutrition is not merely disconcerting to medical professionals. It is alarming. The situation has become so desperate that obesity will soon become the nation’s leading cause of preventable death.[v]

America’s nutritional dilemma is not, however, limited to obesity concerns. Malnutrition in non-overweight individuals is nearing epidemic levels. Millions of "fit looking" individuals subsist on a diet that is far too rich in carbohydrates a problem that has been enhanced for generations by the US FDA’s encouragement of refined carbohydrates as part of a balanced diet. We now know, however, that many of these refined carbohydrates are metabolically similar to candies and sweets. Added to this problem is that saturated fats continue to dominate many meals, particular those served in fast food restaurants.

What Is Insulin - The Complete Guide

What Is Insulin - The Complete Guide
 by: Ray Kelly

You might have heard of insulin in connection with the disease known as diabetes. Still, you might be curious about insulin—what it means for the body and what can happen if the body does not produce enough of it. In addition, chances are you know little about the history of insulin and how science’s knowledge of insulin has changed over the years.

To begin with, knowledge about insulin is a relatively new phenomenon. Berlin medical student Paul Langerhans first discovered insulin in 1869. Using a microscope, Langerhans noticed a heap of cells in the pancreas which later became known as the Islets of Langerhans. Later, scientists surmised that these cells produce insulin, which regulates carbohydrate metabolism. In January of 1922, Leonard Thompson, a 14-year-old diabetic, received the first insulin injection. Because the extract was impure, Thompson experienced a severe allergic reaction. As a result, doctors cancelled future insulin injections for Thompson. However, in later years, researchers were able to perfect insulin injections, making them the primary means of treating diabetes.

Controlling Intestinal Gas Naturally

Controlling Intestinal Gas Naturally
 by: Dr. Rita Louise

Intestinal gas, flatulence, farting or breaking wind is a natural part of the digestive process. This odorless gas, although at times embarrassing, is the result of good digestion. Every day our body produces one to three pints of gas that is ultimately passed. Intestinal gas is made up of oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen, carbon dioxide and methane. If we notice an unpleasant smell, it is because the gas contains other compounds, including hydrogen sulfide and ammonia.

Bacterium that lives in our intestinal tract is what produces most intestinal gas. It digests the food we eat; primarily sugars, starches and cellulose. When ingested sugars are not been properly broken down, they can ferment and produce gas as they pass through the small intestine. Contractions of the small intestine propel this gas through the large intestine, where it is expelled out the rectum. This prevents gas from accumulating in the body, which can cause cramping.

Certain foods produce more gas then others. Some healthy foods such as fruits, vegetables, oatmeal, beans and peas often are the worst offenders. These foods are high in soluble fiber. Fiber slows the digestion of starches in the small intestine, thus promoting increased gas. Fiber, however, has many benefits including promoting a healthy digestive tract, regulating our blood sugar and maintaining normal cholesterol levels.

The Isometric Diet and Balanced Health

June 8, 2008

The concept isometric has been a part of the health care vocabulary for decades. The most common application of the term, until now, has been with respect to physical exercise. Taken from the Greek root word Iso, meaning equal, the familiar term Isometric exercises involves applying equal weight to achieve strength goals.

Fairly recently, health researchers have discovered another innovative application of the isometric concept in the health care field: nutrition. These researchers have identified that an isometric approach to diet ? a.k.a. the "Isometric Diet" — can lead to health improvement.

The Isometric Diet®, which provides the philosophical basis for the Zone Diet, has swiftly gained respect from the health and nutrition community because it applies this clear "balance" lens to the rather confused, often misinformed world of dieting. Created by Dan Duchaine in the mid 90s, and evolved by researchers such as Dr. Barry Sears (founder of the Zone Diet?), the Isometric Diet is an eating regimen that calls for a balanced ratio of protein, low-glycemic carbohydrates, and essential fatty acids.

How I Cured The Temptation To Binge!

How I Cured The Temptation To Binge!
 by: Marie Kearney Gordon

I decided to tackle this subject because until quite recently, it was one of my biggest downfalls. I suspect that it might, and I do repeat the word might, be a problem which affects women more than men.

After all, we do tend to deprive ourselves more than men, and being totally realistic, although men nowadays are much more concerned about their weight and health, they do not take it to extremes as a general rule.

Women are much more susceptible to mood swings, mainly caused by hormone imbalances, and are much much more sensitive in terms of what people think of them. There are many more pressures on them to look good, or to measure up to the latest fashion trend and so on.

What man I ask you would continue to read any magazine that told him that he really did not measure up, or was the wrong shape, height or weight etc. Women strive for perfection, and sadly perfection is not possible. We can only make the best of what we have!.

What Increases and Decreases Good & Bad Cholesterol?

What Increases and Decreases Good & Bad Cholesterol?
 by: Linda Giles

Factors leading to and Increase in Cholesterol

Poor eating habits

Diet that is high in saturated fat tends to elevate cholesterol. Saturated fats are found mostly in foods that come from animals. Saturated fat raises you LDL (“bad”) cholesterol level more that anything else in the diet. Eating too much saturated fat is the main reason for high levels of cholesterol and high rate of heart attacks.

Smoking

Cigarette smoking lowers HDL (“good”) cholesterol levels and is one of the six major risk factors of heart disease. It also increases the tendency for blood to clot. Once a person quits smoking, HDL cholesterol levels rises within weeks or months to levels that are equal to their nonsmoking peers.

Excess Weight

Excess weight tends to increase your LDL (“bad”) cholesterol level. If you are over weight and have high LDL-cholesterol level, losing weight may help you lower it.

Heredity

Heredity can make certain individuals more prone to high cholesterol. Genes play a role in influencing you LDL-cholesterol level. Your genes influence how high you LDL (“bad”) cholesterol is by affecting how fast LDL is made and removed from the blood.
