How To Reduce Perspiration | Stop Excessive Sweating
 by: Chris Chew

It is a known fact that overweight and obese people are more prone to excessive sweating as they perspire more. However, excessive perspiration can be also due to several underlying medical conditions such as menopause, psychiatric illnesses and very active thyroid glands. Excessive sweating is also known to occur to people with no known medical condition and thus the cause of heavy sweating for this group of people is unknown.

It is very distressing to suffer from over sweating and many people with this condition also suffer from low self esteem. This is because excessive sweating may cause them to have undesirable body odor, looking unkempt and dirty.

It is easier for those who are overweight to reduce excessive perspiration since it is just a matter of reducing their body fat weight. Losing weight is easy with the right combination of exercises and healthy eating habits. Many people who find it hard to lose weight and disagree with me that losing weight is easy is because they are doing it wrongly.

Syncope or Sudden Fainting

Syncope or Sudden Fainting
 by: Daisy Bone

Syncope is a common disorder of temporary loss of consciousness and posture, described as ‘fainting’ or ‘passing out.’ It’s usually related to temporary insufficient blood flow to the brain and annually affects six per cent of elderly persons and accounts for 3 per cent of emergency department visits. Syncope is an important heart problem, is disabling, costly, may cause grievous injury or may be the only initial sign before the sudden cardiac death. Evaluating cause of syncope is difficult as brain, heart or some metabolic abnormality could be responsible for the same. The probable cause of syncope is established in only 75 per cent of cases. The annual cost of evaluating and treating patients with syncope in United States alone is a staggering 800 million dollars.

The common faint or Vasovagal Syncope

Most of us remember that in our morning school assembly, a student would fall on prolonged standing. On lying flat on the ground he would recover promptly and such episodes were more common during sunny days. This was actually vasovagal syncope or the common faint. This is more common during emotional stress, pain, after a hot shower or in warm environment. It is seen mostly in young women and is more often than not associated with warning symptoms such as nausea, blurred vision or light-headedness. But there are many more forms of syncope, with many causes, apart from the vasovagal syncope.

Losing Weight is All About What You Gain

Losing Weight is All About What You Gain
 by: Jim O’Neill

Many people have thought about losing weight over the years, but often seem to fall short of an actual attempt to do it. The reason why so many people think about it so much is because deep down, they know that having that extra poundage is not at all good for them. The problem is, just knowing that being overweight is bad is not enough to really push many people to do something about it. Much like wanting to quit smoking, knowing it is bad for you don’t induce people to quit doing it. However, if you were to find some really good reasons to quit smoking, like your doctor told you if you don’t quit, you will lose a lung next year, that might make you act and just do it.

Well, losing weight is just like quitting smoking, the more good reasons you have to do it, the more likely you are to act on it and make it happen. If you have something driving your motivation aside from just knowing it is bad for you, you are also more likely to maintain your weight loss goal once you reach it.

Fluoride in Drinking Water

March 29, 2008

Are there any benefits to be obtained from drinking water that has Fluoride added? Well, the jury seems to be out, and they have been out for a very long time, without producing a satisfactory answer as to whether it is beneficial or harmful.

Scientists have discovered that there is a Toxic interaction between Fluoride and Aluminium, which can lead to Alzheimer’s Disease. Others say that Fluoridation is a corrosive poison that will produce serious effects over the long term.

A large number of local authorities, worldwide have included Fluoride in the Cocktail that is called drinking water, for many years, whilst others have steered clear of inflicting this on the public, without their consent. Some authorities feel, that if parents want their children to have Fluoride, they can obtain tablets themselves, some authorities even provide them free, if they are required, as cost is not usually a problem, Fluoride is not an expensive chemical.

It is very difficult not to use Fluoride, as most brands of toothpaste contain this chemical, though if you read the labeling on products, you will find that there are a few around, that are free of Fluoride, perhaps this is what you should be looking out for if you put any value on your health, of course the choice is yours.

ADD and College Students - How Does It Affect Them?
 by: Sarah Jenkins

Unfortunately, Attention Deficit Disorder does not necessarily fade with age. Many people that suffer as a child will continue to suffer as a teen, as well as into adulthood. However, this disorder may affect people differently at different stages in their life.

College can be a difficult time for some students. For many, this represents a time of breaking free and starting their new uninhibited lives. This may be an exciting and emotional time. How does a college student with ADD face such a time?

For a person with Attention Deficit Disorder, this may prove to be a harsh time of transformation. Typically coming from families that were especially doting and accommodating to their situation, they are thrown in to a new environment to fend for themselves. One of the basic behavior modification techniques in training an ADD child is through structure, routine, and habit. At once, all of this is taken and it becomes the student’s responsibility to recreate this structured life they once had. Of course, a person with ADD is typically disorganized and unstructured. So, they may have a difficult time having the discipline to enact such stringent requirements for themselves.

Children And Halitosis, Bad Breath

Children And Halitosis, Bad Breath
 by: Pieternel Van Giersbergen

Children can have bad breath just as easily as their parents. When the Webmaster of badbreathgone.com asked me to write an article on halitosis (bad breath) and children, my first thought was, “Great, a no brainer!” As an RN and mother who also works in close contact with children in a daycare, I’ve got plenty of good insight into halitosis in our little ones.

When you smell the breath of a healthy child it smells fresh and clean. If it doesn’t, then use this checklist of the most probable causes of the halitosis/bad breath:

1. Dehydration.(which is more common than most people suspect)

2. Overeating and consequent poor digestion.

3. Eating food that promotes yeast/ candida.

4. Incipient or undiagnosed illness/ infection, low immune system.

5. Too much sugar.

6. Dental problems.

7. Not well-rested, too much activity.

As a parent and RN I often try to smell a child’s breath. I can tell you that the children who come to the ER with bronchitis or asthma all have halitosis/ bad breath. Why? Because they have an infection and/or food allergy, and 9 times out of 10 are dehydrated.

Lighten Your Load A New Year’s Resolution
 by: Kamau Austin

It’s 2006!

Another year, another reason to party and yes.another set of resolutions to tackle.

Most of us start the new year ready to take on new goals. We start with a strong push toward meeting these new goals. However, sometimes as early as the second week of the year, the resolutions lose their energy and eventually die by the middle of February, if not sooner.

It doesn’t end there. We sometimes further recycle those same resolutions the next year.

We wonder why we fail at something that we have so desperately wanted to accomplish?

The answer is simplewe fail because we have not planned to succeed. Success takes planning. Ask anyone who has ever reached a major career or personal goal.

Achieving a weight loss goal will happen if you follow the steps outlined below.

Define your end result: This is the first step to losing weight. Define clearly the end result that you want. Is it to be able to slip into a favorite dress or to increase your energy level and vitality?

Treat the Bags Under Your Eyes!

Treat the Bags Under Your Eyes!
 by: Kamau Austin

Modern technology has life easier, yet more stressful! A lot of people put in 16 - 20 hour days with work, family and leisure time. And the last four to eight hour is spent in fitful, non-restful sleep. The results of a poor night’s sleep can be dark circles under the eyes.

What are dark circles?

Dark Circles are deep shadows below the eyes. They can mask the energy and vitality you feel with a haggard and tired look. Dark circles may be accompanied by swelling commonly referred to bags under the eyes.

What makes dark circles?

Dark circles may be caused either by stressful or incomplete sleep or a deficiency of some nutrient like vitamin K. Some additional causes are outlined below.

Heredity: Like varicose veins, dark circles under the eyes can be an inherited trait. If you have dark circles, there is a chance that others in your family also have them. The skin under you eye may be very thin. When blood passes through the large veins close to the surface of the skin it can produce a bluish tint. The more transparent the skin you inherited, the darker the circles can appear.

Enjoy a Healthier Lifestyle With More Fruits And Vegetables
 by: Nishanth Reddy

Everyone agrees on the importance of eating more fruits and vegetables, but not enough people are following this important advice. Dietary experts recommend that every person should eat at least five servings of fruits and vegetables every day. Increasing your consumption of fruits and vegetables is one of the easiest changes you can make to increase your level of health, lose weight and gain fitness.

The latest food guidelines recommend that adults eat from five to nine servings of fruits and vegetables every day. While that may seem like a lot, it is an important goal to strive for, and a very reachable one.

A serving of a fruit or vegetable is equal to:

1. 1 medium sized vegetable or fruit (such as an apple, orange or banana)

2. 2 small fruits (such as kiwi fruit or plums)

3. ½ cup of fresh, frozen or canned fruits or vegetables

4. ½ cup of 100% fruit juice

5. ¼ cup of dried fruit

6. 1 cup of green salad

Five Reasons You Should Drink More Water

March 24, 2008

I know you’ve heard this many times - “Drink more water!”. Yet, 99% of the people don’t heed this advice. Maybe if water was more expensive, people would pay more attention to consume enough of it on a daily basis. We are living in a dehydrated world of carbonated beverages, caffeine and alcohol.

I bet you don’t know how important is water for your health, figure and well-being. I didn’t know it until I found a book that literally opened my eyes. The book is titled “Your Body’s Many Cries for Water” by Dr. Fereydoon Batmanghelidj.

Reason 1: Water can cure many modern diseases

According to Dr. Batmanghelidj, a long list of modern diseases can be practically eliminated by just drinking more water. The list includes and is not limited to: asthma, hypertension, back and joint pain, arthritis, constipation, allergies, ulcers and the list goes on and on.

I know it sounds crazy. I have heard many weird health theories in my life, but what interests me is the “results of following this or that advice”. The “drink more water cure” has worked for so many of my friends and myself that I wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone.
