Why Digestive Enzymes Are Vital To Good Health!

January 23, 2008

Most digestive disorders develop because of the bodys inability to produce sufficient enzymes for health-enhancing digestion and proper nutrient absorption. Enzyme depletion results in improper digestion and absorption, leading to chronic disorders Malabsorption is the inability of the cells of the body to obtain nutrients from the foods consumed. This inaction causes loss of vitamins, minerals, fiber and the caloric value (energy) of foods, resulting in cellular deprivation. Digestive malabsorption can occur as a result of the following condition:

1. Insufficient time for large food molecules (protein, starch, fat) to be broken down by specific digestive enzymes.

2. Improperly-functioning Pancreas, not capable of delivering enough digestive enzymes to the small intestine to break down large molecules; thus, nutrient absorption becomes minimal or nonexistent.

3. The development of a condition known as Cleaky gut syndrome in which the membrane walls of the intestine lining become permeable, allowing undigested food to be leaded into the bloodstream.

The work of digestive enzymes is to break down food materials into components that are absorbable and, in addition, produce substances that assist in emulsifying fats into forms that can be readily absorbed into the blood.

Weight Loss Diary, Day 1

Weight Loss Diary, Day 1
 by: David McCarthy

Weight Loss Day by Day Diary:

Day 1: Sunday February 5, 2006.

In response to an email I received from a reader I have taken up her suggestion to share my next weight control program by publishing my weight loss diary in article form for everybody to follow.

I’ll start with a few personal details that will give you a guideline to make comparisons with your own progress.

- My height is a fraction over 6 feet. (1.83m)

- My current weight is 197 pounds (97.5 kilos)

- My target weight is 180 pounds (89 kilos.)

- My age is 65.

- My physical condition is basically sound but I do suffer from osteo-arthritis in both ankles. The left is severe the right isn’t much of a problem.

I guess the reason for coming clean on those personal details is to make the point that age or physical condition is a factor. Younger, fitter people will find this easier.

What is Your Cellular Age?

What is Your Cellular Age?
 by: Michael Pickering

What is Your Cellular Age?

Dr. Jonas Frisen was working in his lab, when he found

something that almost caused him to fall off of his lab

stool.

Dr. Frisen is a stem cell biologist in Stockholm. He was

working on developing a new way to estimate the ages of

human cells.

Now, most of you are probably thinking, so what. I am 20

or 30 or whatever age you are, so my cells are the same age.

That is what Dr. Friesen and many other scientists thought

also.

However, the startling fact is that, the age of your cells

ranges from 7 to 10 years old throughout your life.

Cells replace themselves all the time. Some cells replace

themselves every day, some over several years and some not

at all.

But, most cells in your own body are less than 10 years old.

So even if you are 50 or 60 years old, your body is under

ten years old.

Some Dangers of Silent Inflammation

Some Dangers of Silent Inflammation
 by: Beverly Storer

Inflammation has been in the news a lot lately. Not just inflammation

but silent inflammation. It’s been the topic in countless newspaper

articles and TV news reports. So what’s all the fuss about silent

inflammation?

According to Dr. Barry Sears author of The Anti Inflammation Zone,

Silent inflammation is inflammation that you can’t feel and what’s more

average Americans are leading a lifestyle that causes chronic silent

inflammation. He also states that silent inflammation is the first sign

that your body is out of balance and you are no longer well. You can’t

feel it but its grinding down your heart, your brain, and your immune

system. It’s insidious and is the greatest threat to your wellness.

When over produced by the body, three hormones - Cortisol, Insulin and

Pro-Inflammatory Eicosanoids - contribute to silent inflammation and

set the stage for disease.

Dr. Sears states that wellness is ultimately dependent on the levels of

cellular inflammation and especially silent inflammation found in your

How My Health Was Restored Through Glyconutrition

January 19, 2008

My name is Mildred Shears. I’m retired and I live in the Minnesota Northwoods with my husband, George, our German Shorthair, Bodhi, and our senior citizen cat, Cinnamon.

A Sudden Transition from Health to Helplessness

On a hot summer day in 1983, I had a very sudden attack of extreme dizziness. For the next two years, I was in bed or a wheel chair and could only walk with assistance. Doctors had nothing to help me. I took a lot of supplements and tried many forms of alternative healing.

19 Years of Daily Adjustment to Unpredictable Health

I gradually got so I could walk again, but I continued to suffer from extreme fatigue and heat sensitivity. Due to inactivity, I gained a lot of weight and was sick most of the time.

Every day was a struggle to do any normal task or activity. As a mother I could not participate in actively spending time with my teen-age daughter because I did not have the energy. I could never predict when I would collapse and have to stop and rest. Planning ahead for working, shopping, preparing meals, doing housework or just visiting was impossible.

Medicine and Hypnosis. Hypnotherapy - Healing Emotionally and Physically from the Inside Out
 by: Linda Simmon

More and more doctors now realize that hypnosis is powerful medicine.

Why this is and how it happens is still something of a mystery, but

science is proving that hypnosis can improve your health in amazing

ways. It can help relieve pain, make breathing easier for people

with respiratory illnesses, aid with gastrointestinal ailments and

relieve depression just to name a few. The most astonishing evidence

is coming from research on healing.

In a pilot study published in 1999, Harvard University psychologist

Carol Ginandes, Ph.D., showed that hypnosis can help broken bones

heal faster and, in a follow-up experiment published in 2000,

Ginandes and her research team discovered that women who had breast

reduction surgery recovered far more quickly after undergoing

hypnosis.

It is speculated that hypnosis alters the levels of certain chemicals

found in the brain that influence the nervous system, hormone

production, and the immune system. It appears that hypnosis affects

how genes in cells express themselves, turning some functions on and

Hyperactivity vs ADD - What’s The Difference?

Hyperactivity vs ADD - What’s The Difference?
 by: Sarah Jenkins

A common misconception, when it comes to Attention Deficit Disorder, is that it is one in the same with hyperactivity. However, this is far from the truth. While people with ADD may exhibit signs of hyperactivity, it is not an inherent trait of the disorder and often does not occur with sufferers of ADD.

Hyperactivity is a general term referring to excessive and/or pathological activeness. This term is often used erroneously for an active person that does not meet the excessive criteria. It is important to understand that all children are active to a certain extent, and that some are even extremely active. However, this does not necessarily constitute hyperactivity. A hyperactive person will seem to be driven to movement, making it almost impossible to sit still. If sitting, they will often fidget or talk excessively as a countermeasure. Hyperactivity is often difficult to assess in adults; however, children are much easier to diagnose.

Types of ADD Manifestation in Children
 by: Sarah Jenkins

Attention Deficit Disorder wears many faces among children. While the hyperactive, rebellious boys are easy to spot, there are also several other types of children that suffer from ADD that go undiagnosed because of their less conspicuous behavior. Girls often fall into this category.

Some girls are referred to as the “tomboy” type. Preferring more physical activities, they often exhibit some of the key characteristics of ADD, without the defiant behavior of their male counterparts. For this reason, parents and teachers will usually assume the child is not academically inclined and unorganized, but never consider ADD to be a possibility.

Another often undiagnosed group of ADD children are the “chatty” girls. This type is a combination of inattentiveness and hyperactivity and is typically exhibited as being extremely social. More hyper-talkative than hyperactive, these girls have a very difficult time keeping quiet even after being disciplined for talking. They will also tend to jump around a lot when telling stories and organizing their thoughts.
