Think Twice About Going To The Emergency Room For Back Pain
by: Robert Gould
With low back pain being the number reason why millions of Americans miss work, you would think hospitals around the country would be more compassionate with people who suffer from chronic low back pain. Being a chronic pain sufferer myself who suffers from low back pain with a herniated disc, I know too well how ER doctors treat patients seeking help for some kind of relief. It seems as soon as you walk in and tell them the reason your here to see the doctor is for back pain, your immediately cast in a different light.
The ironic thing in today’s modern times, hospitals and ER doctors have available, and can look up information on patients that have on record tests such as, MRI’s, CT scans, or any other type of documentation to verify a diagnosis the patient is complaining of. With so many people falsely going to ER rooms complaining of back pain just to get medication, they should actually do a little research before they put you in that category of just seeking medication.
Boost Your Immune System
December 31, 2007
The Immune System is probably the most important system in your body. It was designed by nature, millions of years ago, to aid the body in recovering from injuries and illness. In other words "a natural built in healing system".
Your blood is composed mainly of red and white cells, the red ones carry the oxygen and nutrition to all parts of the body, the white ones are the defenders and scavengers of your body, during infection, they are immediately called upon to fight the infection and clean up afterwards. These billions of cells work very hard and consequently they have quite a short lifespan, usually, only a few days.
Originally the Immune System did not face as many problems, as it does in this day and age, now it has to cope with pollution, poisons, toxins, pesticides, herbicides and chemicals, in the air that we breathe, the food that we eat and the water that we drink. As you will understand, the immune system is fighting a huge battle, just trying to cope with all these attacks that are happening every day. Luckily for us, these cells can be generated very quickly, so with the correct nutrition, it will not take the immune system much time, to get back up to full strength.

Natural Ways To Lower Cholesterol
by: Gray Rollins
High cholesterol levels can greatly increase the risk of heart disease including potentially fatal heart attacks. Heart disease can be caused by a number of factors but lowering cholesterol can have many positive effects and reduce risk. High cholesterol causes hardening of the arteries. Blood flow is then reduced to the heart which may result in chest pains or a heart attack. Lowering the possible causes of hardening or blocking the arteries will help maintain a healthy heart.
For severely high cholesterol it is recommended to seek consultation with a physician for the best course of treatment. Traditionally, this is treated with prescription medication. However, the majority of people can lower cholesterol naturally without the use of prescription drugs. Natural remedies are abundantly available. With a few changes in eating habits and lifestyle, one can easily lower cholesterol.
Eating foods that are low in fat will help as well as avoiding those with high fat content, especially foods containing trans-fat. Spreads such as butter and margarine have high levels of trans-fat. Packaged foods and frozen foods generally contain high levels also. Potato chips, crackers, baked goods and fast foods are all types to avoid. Instead concentrate on foods that are low in fat and high in fiber. Foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables, fish, and garlic are great to use in your daily diet.
Weight Gain During Pregnancy: Choosing The Right Foods
December 29, 2007
So you need to gain weight but don’t want to gain too much weight during your pregnancy right?
There are many things that you can do to improve your diet and ensure that you gain a minimal but healthy amount of weight during pregnancy.
Choosing the right foods is important because you will be able to loose weight more quickly after delivery if you manage your diet during pregnancy.
So here is what you need to do during pregnancy to ensure weight loss success after:
Tip #1 Choose whole foods. Whole foods are foods that are dense in nutrients. Think wild rice, whole grains, and unprocessed foods. Whole foods don’t include waffles and pancakes!
Tip #2 Add calories during the second trimester. Eating for two doesn’t literally mean eating for two. In fact during your first trimester your baby is about the size of a small bean! Most women don’t actually need to start adding 300 calories a day to their diet until the second and third trimesters.

Is Fibromyalgia A Disease, A Collection Of Symptoms Or Is It All In Your Head?
by: Terry McDermott
For weeks you have been aching from head to foot. You have no energy, you can’t concentrate and you can’t remember the last time you got a good night’s sleep. You have been to the doctor a few times already and all he can tell you is what you DON’T have. You have read about fibromyalgia and even talked to others that have been diagnosed with the disease. Yet, so far, no one can tell you whether you have it or not?
Sound familiar?
Well welcome to the world of fibromyalgia diagnostics. It is bad enough that there is no cure or significantly effective treatment for this condition, but it is even more frustrating when it takes so long for anyone to tell you that the problems you are having are caused by fibromyalgia.
There is no debate as to the validity of fibromyalgia as a disease. In fact, the World Health Organization has recognized the disease for many years. It is the diagnosis that is debatable.

Anger and Health
by: Steven Stosny
The effects of anger on health have more to do with duration than frequency and intensity. The normal experience of overt anger lasts only a few minutes. But the subtle forms of anger, such as resentment, impatience, irritability, grouchiness, etc., can go on for hours and days at a time. Consistent, prolonged levels of anger give a person a five times greater chance of dying before age 50. Anger elevates blood pressure, increases threat of stroke, heart disease, cancer, depression, anxiety disorders, and, in general, depresses the immune system (angry people have lots of little aches and pains or get a lot of colds and bouts of flu or headaches or upset stomachs). To make matters worse, angry people tend to seek relief from the ill-moods caused by anger through other health-endangering habits, such as smoking and drinking, or through compulsive behavior such as workaholism and perfectionism.
Laboratory experiments have shown that even subtle forms of anger impair problem-solving abilities and general performance competence. In addition to increasing error rates, anger narrows and makes rigid mental focus, tending to obscure alternative perspectives. The angry person has one “right way” of doing things, which, if selected in anger, is seldom the best way. There is nothing you can do angry (resentful, irritable, grouchy, impatient, chilly) that you can’t do better not angry.

Do Carb Blocker / Starch Blocker Pills Work?
by: Chris Chew
•What are carb blocker or starch blocker pills?
Drop in to any pharmacy or supermarket and you will see many brands of carb blocker pills for sale. The carb blocker pills or more specifically, starch blocker pills are supposed to block carbohydrate absorption from the food you have eaten for weight management and weight loss purposes.
They are generally made from bean and wheat germ extracts especially white kidney beans. Carb blocker pills when taken are supposed inhibit the release of a digestive enzyme called alpha amylase that breaks down starchy carbohydrates. This then prevent carbohydrates or starch from converting into glucose and then to body fat. The unabsorbed carbs are then passed through the intestinal tracts and subsequently excreted.
•Are there any side effects from taking carb blockers?
Some people suffer from various minor side effects and discomforts such bloating, gas, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea after taking the carb blocker pills. However, carb blocker manufacturers consistently claim that these syptoms are actually indications that the starch blocker pills are working just fine.
•Do carb blocker pills really work?

Major Causes of Acne Scars and How to Get Rid of Them
by: Ling Fong
An injury may result in acne scars in the body as it tries to recover from the damage.Degree of vulnerability towards acne is one of the most effective causes that determine the intensity of acne scars in one’s body.Acne scars are, though, much related to reasonable degree of pain, usually extending its range to extreme cases.
Raised or keloid scars, caused by the extra amount of skin tissue incorporated is the most frequently observed type of acne scars.Extra collagen left under the skin is the main factor determining the type and size of scars. To illustrate, people with darker skins are much prone to suffer from huge scars that can be considered as extraordinary as compared to optimum sized scars.
The second type of acne scars is usually called sunken scars that are resulted from the loss of normal skin tissue.Being observed more common in the public, sunken scars are believed to create ambigious spots, pits, in the skin.Sunken scars may be of different types according to the way each looks. For instance, ice-pick sunken scars resemble steep sides in one’s body.

Did I Really Eat That? How to Quickly Recover From a Binge
by: Jackie Stanley
At one time or another, we have all awakened to the sight of empty soda bottles, pizza boxes, candy bar wrappers, or ice cream containers strewn about our bedroom, den or kitchen and asked ourselves: “Did I really eat all that?”
Rather than accepting binges as temporary relapses, we tend to react by beating ourselves up for falling off the wagon and failing to follow through our healthy eating plan. Here are a few concrete actions you can take after a binge to successfully coach yourself from relapse to recovery in as little time as possible:
Go Ahead and Vent!
Give yourself 10 minutes to vent about your setback. Set a timer to make certain you don’t get carried away, and then use this time to whine about why you can’t eat whatever you want. Complain about how much you hate to exercise. Blame your mother and rave on about why it is not your fault that you like ice cream. Give voice to everything you are feeling and thinking - expressing anything that might be contaminating your brain. But when the 10 minutes are up and the timer goes off, stop venting and move on.
