Emma’s Not Dreaming
by: Cameron Elliott
Emma could not believe her luck. She walked into the kitchen, and it was spotless. The counter was free of her housemates’ dirty, grimy dishes. The oven was sparkling clean, a pristine white. And there was Brad, clad in only sweatpants, flipping blueberry pancakes in one pan, and making eggs in another. The aroma of coffee, baking, eggs, and something else filled the sunny kitchen.
Brad handed her a full mug of coffee. “I made breakfast. I hope you don’t mind.” He winked at her.
“Mind?! This is unbelievable. I must be dreaming.”
And that’s when it dawned on her.
Emma woke up with a vague feeling of regret, but mostly, she was satisfied, feeling content. Some might have written it off as ‘only’ a dream. Emma preferred to focus on the fact that it happened at all.
The exact nature of dreams is still unknown. It’s not entirely clear what dreams “are.” It is known and it is clear that when we dream, our brains act as if we’re awake. One theory is that dreams are a way for our subconscious to work out the things we have to deal with but ignore during the day. But when we’re asleep and dreaming, our subconscious is free to play with whatever is lurking around.
Keeping Cool When Pregnant

Chill Out: how to keep your cool this summer
When the heat is on, life can become very hard when you are pregnant. Instead of looking forward to those long, hot August days, you may find yourself dreaming of igloos and frozen ice-caps, so try out these tricks to help you keep your cool when the temperature rises.
Clothes
? Wear loose fitting clothes that will let the air circulate - tight waistbands in particular will make you feel hot and bothered.
? Natural fabrics such as cotton are best, as they will allow your skin to breath.
? You may need to buy some larger shoes, particularly if your feet start to swell.
? Water
? Even if you are still suffering from morning sickness, it is vital that you drink 8 glasses of water a day as it is very easy for pregnant women to become dehydrated.
? Try to avoid coffee and fizzy drinks as they can act as diuretics.
Summer food
? Think carefully about your food hygiene - it is very easy to get food poisoning in the summer.
Green Tea: Help Or Hype?

Green Tea: Help Or Hype?
by: Laura Turner
There’s been lots of health-hype lately surrounding the benefits of green tea. I’m certain you’ve heard it, too. Have you ever wondered: “Is it really worth my while to drink tea of the green variety?” Stick around and decide for yourself.
First: The Claims:
A rich source of anti-oxidants:
What are anti-oxidants? Anti-oxidants neutralize “free radicals” or unstable molecules in the body that can eventually become unfriendly and wreak havoc on the cells. Free radical damage can cause everything from sun damage to hardening of the arteries. Green tea will help you bulk up on the anti-oxidant warriors that help to both lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease by controlling blood pressure.
Cancer prevention:
Green tea has been shown to lower rates of cancer in Asian populations. The cancers studied and which have been recorded include: bladder, colon, esophagus, pancreas, rectal and stomach. New evidence suggests green tea may also help prevent prostate cancer, as well.
Help with arthritis:
Studies also suggest there is possible anti-inflammatory and arthritis preventing effects in green tea although, I’ll admit, solid scientific evidence was difficult to come by. By simple suggestion, I’ll give green tea an A for effort in the arthritis category.

by: Andrew Taylor
It’s 8 in the morning. Your kid complains of headache, fatigue, body pain and fever. “No more excuses, honey! Pack your bags and go to school”. “It’s the usual school-fever”, you thought. Wrong! Your child has just developed the symptoms of influenza - or flu.
Remember - you have 48 hours to prevent the flu virus from spreading to other parts of your loved one’s body. This is a crucial period to get your kid medically examined for flu. Ask your doctor about the suitability of Tamiflu for your child.
Roche Laboratories, Inc. might just have provided you with possibly the best treatment option for flu virus. Their brand drug Tamiflu (generic name, oseltamivir) is a proven drug for flu treatment. A word of caution - buy Tamiflu only after consulting your doctor since Tamiflu is a prescription drug and not to be taken OTC. Many websites offer Tamiflu online but it is not advisable to purchase it before proper medical approval.

Are You Thinking Right for Weight Loss?

Are You Thinking Right for Weight Loss?
by: Janice Elizabeth Small
Everyone knows that you lose weight if you eat fewer calories than you need each day. But if it were that simple there would not be such a problem with obesity in the Western world - we’d all have the key to weight loss. The problem is that so much to do with succeeding at weight loss rests in our heads and not our bodies. To succeed we need to get our heads working for us and not against us.
Ask yourself these ten questions to see if you are thinking in the right way to lose weight.
1. Have you decided to succeed?
Until you make a definite decision there will be no change to your actions. If you just dabble with “losing a few pounds” you’re unlikely to get anywhere. Make a definite decision and stick to it.
2. Have you set a realistic target?
You need to know where you’re going or you’ll never know when you’ve arrived. What is your target weight and when do you plan to reach it? Plan on losing no more than a pound or two a week. If you set an impossibly high target you’ll get discouraged as soon as it looks like you won’t make it.

Treating Insomnia Naturally
by: Brandon C. Hall
Sleep is something that every human being requires. For some people they only need a few hours of sleep every night, but for others if they don’t get at a minimum eight hours, they cannot function properly during the day. Their work, their relationships and their life is impacted. Sleep in fundamental to a healthy and happy life.
Insomnia is a problem that affects millions of people each night. If you are one of these individuals and you’ve spent a night filled with sleeplessness, you would most certainly welcome any method that would guarantee sleep. Having first hand knowledge of how difficult it is not to be able to sleep, gives a person an appreciation for how valuable resting our bodies is.
Insomnia can be a chronic condition for some people. It may begin as a symptom of an illness or during a particularly stressful time in someone’s life and it causes such a drastic disruption in the individual’s sleep pattern that they struggle to find a way to regain a normal sleep pattern. Spending years struggling to find a method to sleep is a frustrating experience.

The Dangers of Avian Flu as it Spreads to More Countries
by: Alfred Jones
As some of you will know, I first started writing about Avian or Bird Flu in May, 2005, since then it has spread to more countries, with the latest being the continent of Africa, namely Nigeria just announced, Turkey and Romania where there has been a number of deaths in the last few weeks.
I have also mentioned before that I believe that two of the best things that anyone can do to help themselves, is to ensure that their Immune System is functioning as efficiently as is possible, in other words, using your own preventative system to ward off the virus, and the second thing to do is to say a prayer.
Whether you visit my websites and use the products that I offer to help your immune system, or whether you go somewhere else, that is your choice, but, the important thing is that you do something.
Medical supply companies state that in recent times there has been a huge increase in the sale of surgical masks, about 500%. Please don’t think that they will help you as a normal surgical mask is worn by surgeons and nurses to protect the patient from receiving germs breathed out by medical staff, not to prevent the surgical staff from receiving germs from the patient.
Sleep Disorders: Insomnia

Sleep Disorders: Insomnia
by: Cameron Elliott
Sleep disorders is a broad category encompassing of variety of conditions that affect sleep. Insomnia, sleep apnea, narcolepsy, restless leg syndrome are the most common, but sleep disorders also include sleep walking, hypersomnia, and night terrors. There isn’t enough space to provide an in- depth explanation for each, so starting with insomnia, the four most common ones will be explored properly.
Literally meaning “no sleep,” insomnia is one of the most common sleep disorders: everyone has lain awake all night, has woken up in the middle of night, has woken up hours too early. Insomnia takes its toll on your health, on your peace of mind, on your wallet. When you don’t sleep enough, you’re tired and irritable, unable to concentrate. You lose money by getting in accidents because you’re exhausted, by being unable to work.
There are two types of insomnia: acute and chronic. Acute insomnia is temporary, lasting no more than a month, caused by the situation or environment: after traveling and being jet lagged, after losing your job. It occurs when relationships end, when you lose someone close to you. As the situation gets better, as things return to normal, you begin to feel better, and you sleep.
Fish Oil Data-some new facts about Fish Oil
November 14, 2007
According to the renowned research scientist and inventor of the Z one Diet Plan Dr. Barry Sears, studies are increasingly focusing on high dose fish oil. Actually, fish oil has been studied for some time. However, it has been looked at with more intensity ever since the Greenland Eskimos were analyzed by Danish and other European doctors in the 1970’s. They wanted to know why the greenlanders suffered very little in the way of heart disease-even though they had a lot of fat in their diets.
Fish oil effects a specific set of hormones. The more fish oil that is consumed, broadly speaking, the more “good” and the less “bad” eicosanoids (a certain type of hormone) an individual will have in their body. A key for 21st century medicine will be to balance these hormones as much as possible.
High dose pharmaceutical grade fish oil may be the top source of omega-3 fatty acids since purification methods have become so advanced in recent years, particularly with molecular distillation. And quite unlike traditional cod liver oil, newer methods have mostly eliminated impurities such as mercury and pcb’s from high-grade fish oil. Fish oil has EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), which are both long chain omega-3 fatty acids.
