Whatever Happened to the Basic Four Food Groups?

What Ever Happened to the Basic Four
The USDA was originally given the conflicting task of educating the public on agricultural matters while simultaneously working with food producers to provide a reliable and consistent food supply. This has, over the course of time, led to our ever evolving dietary guidelines, and yet is the purpose of these guidelines for our health or to sell more food?
Would You Believe There Were Once 12 Food Groups?
The food guides during the 1930’s were heavily influenced by The Great Depression and at that time included 12 separate groups!
In 1956 the USDA produced the “Basic Four” food guide. The Dairy Industry was so enthusiastic they heavily promoted the plan, and why not; since milk, eggs and butter were suggested as a separate food group, it only made sense that the Dairy Industry would be quite pleased.
In grade school in the 1960s we were taught three square meals a day were what was best, and any other eating was considered a “snack.” What is a snack? Is it extra food when you’re not hungry? Is it something to do when your bored? Is it a social activity (standing around a table laden with food at a party)?

What Exactly Is Human Growth Hormone And What Can It Do For Me?
by: Patricia Kopp
Is there a way to extend life, reverse aging, and live forever? Since old age is simply a state of hormonal deficiency, a state in which you lack the previously bountiful hormones of youth. These symptoms of old age are actually symptoms that should be able to be reversed. HGH or Human Growth Hormone has been shown to slow down, reduce or stop the typical signs of aging safely and powerfully.
HGH or Human Growth hormone is produced in the pituitary gland of the brain. HGH is primarily released during the early phases of sleep. It is quickly converted by the liver into the growth-promoting metabolite somatomedin C and is then circulated throughout the body. Once released, HGH induces the liver to make insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) and this hormone then triggers the growth of bones, muscles and other body tissues. It promotes cell regeneration in your bones, vital organs and muscles and reduces the amount of fat circulating in the body. Human growth hormone is responsible for many effects on growth, development, immunity and metabolism throughout your body.

Caralluma Fimbriata - A New Natural Weight Loss Aid
by: Bill Herren
You are likely to be seeing a new ingredient in some weight loss supplements by the name of Caralluma Fimbriata. Caralluma Fimbriata is similar to hoodia in that it is a natural appetite suppressant.
Caralluma Fimbriata is said to be a vegetable that is used daily in tribal India. It is eaten in several different forms and it is said that it is used by tribesman in the same way Hoodia is used in other parts of the world - Tribesman will consume it before a long hunt to curb the appetite.
A company named Gencor Pacific USA has created a brand called Slimaluma ™ which is a standardized extract of Caralluma Fimbriata. Caralluma Fimbriata already has some studies behind it that makes it look very promising in the world of weight loss dietary supplements.
If you have tried Hoodia and did not have any success, you may want to try Caralluma Fimbriata before giving up on an all natural appetite stimulant. Currently there are not many products on the market containing Caralluma Fimbriata but I suspect that will change in the near future. We will probably start seeing combination products which contain other well known weight loss supplements such as green tea, Citrimax, and Chromium.
The Pros and Cons of Electrolysis

The Pros and Cons of Electrolysis
by: Megan Halloway
Electrolysis is a method by which body hair is removed. It can be performed on any part of the body except the ears and the inside of the nose. Women often have electrolysis done on their bikini area, underarms, tummy, breasts, chin, brows, and upper lip, although hair can also be removed on the toes, arms, forehead, buttocks and legs. Many men also use electrolysis to remove unwanted hair on their eyebrows, cheekbones, neck, but especially their shoulders and backs. Electrolysis can be arduous in that each individual hair must receive treatment. The treatment consists of a trained practitioner inserting a needle under the skin. An electric current passes through the hair follicle, damaging it.
It is believed that experiments involving electronial epilation (the removal of hair) were taking place as long ago as the Civil War era. Dr. Charles E. Michel (himself an ophthalmologist) reported in the St. Louis Clinical Record in 1875 of the first successful permanent hair epilation by electrolysis. Since then, electrolysis has become quite popular.

Home Health Remedies
by: Marc Deschamps
Home health remedies made with plants, herbs and natural elements can do a lot for you. Contrary to aggressive chemical drugs their action is mild and beneficial for your body.
I am in danger, you are in danger, the whole humanity is in danger. While our health …. geez … our survival is mortgaged, we keep ignoring that we are colonized by the pharmaceutical industry and our health system. While more and more drugs are being developped, we have never suffered so much from cardiac, neurological, mental and immune support diseases.
We continue to ask our governments to finance the cost of this major degradation of our health condition. We continue to push medical spending through the roof by using and consuming presciption drugs that are toxic to our system and can cause severe side effects. Perhaps, we should not accept to be so dependent of products developped by the pharmaceutical companies and financed by governments. Maybe … we should conquer our independance and recover our health condition through home health remedies.

Treating ADD - The Range of Possible Options
by: Sarah Jenkins
Attention Deficit Disorder, a challenge to say the least, may have you ready to pull your hair out. Luckily, there are treatments available to help your child be more successful at completing daily tasks, paying attention, and resisting impulsive activity. Generally, there are three most utilized methods for treating ADD: medication, behavior therapy, or alternative medicine.
Medication has been the primary treatment method for Attention Deficit Disorder for decades. Although it has been the center of much controversy the last several years, many argue that the effectiveness of medication can not be matched by any other treatment method. On the other hand, it is also argued that the side effects common of such medication make it a poor choice of therapy. ADD is most often treated by a form of stimulant medication. While this medicine would cause increased activity in most people, it has a calming effect on people with ADD. There are also other forms of medication used as well.
Side effects of the medication used to treat ADD are typically decreased appetite, and weight loss as a result, increased anxiety, insomnia, and/or irritability.
How Good Is Your Health?
October 26, 2007
It is a question we must ask ourselves continually if we want to live a healthy life. Your health is your most prized possession. Without good health your whole life suffers.
When was the last time you really thought about your health? Last week last month or maybe never it is something we must consider. When it comes to our health we takes a lot of things for granted. We take better care of our cars than we do our own bodies. That car is replaceable your body is not.
It is not enough just to eat good foods and exercise anymore. They are important, but clearly not the whole equation. How many stories have we heard of athletes dying suddenly? Athletes are supposed to be the epitome of good health!
Our bodies are bombarded daily with innumerable microbes and toxins that continually try to destroy our health. We continue to hear news reports of some virus that cannot be killed with antibiotics. Question: what are we to do? Answer: boost our immune systems.
Our day-to-day survival depends on the state of our immune systems. Poor nutrition, stress, exposure to toxins etc., all hurt immune function. New research strongly suggests that undetected microbes can live in the body for years causing everything from heart disease to obesity.

How LASIK Vision Correction Works
by: Nicola Kennedy
The sheer number of different eye corrective surgeries available can be overwhelming at times. And since the matter concerns the eyes, regarded by many as the most important of the five senses, it becomes highly essential that you carry out a basic research of the procedures available. This would certainly aid you in selecting the most feasible and effective treatment. It is also imperative that you have a grasp of how LASIK vision correction works, since LASIK is the most prevalent type of eye surgery.
It is comforting to know that LASIK eye surgery has the most advanced scientific technology at its disposal. It makes use of high-precision equipment and dedicated technicians. For instance, the surgeon employs the Excimer laser, which is an amazingly precise ultraviolet chemical laser. As an evidence of its precision, the Excimer laser is capable of removing 0.5% of a human hair’s width at a time.

Choosing A Good Hair Restoration Clinic
by: Steve Harris
Choosing a good hair restoration clinic is no doubt the most difficult task for any one deciding to go for a hair transplant. With thousands of (http://www.hairrestorationadvice.com/choosing-hair-restoration-clinics/find-a-good-hair-transplant-clinic.shtml hair transplant centers)/ hair transplant clinics mushrooming all over USA it is in fact quite confusing to track down a good hair transplant center.
The following article provides you with a good lead on how to go about choosing the right hair transplant center with a well regarded (http://www.hairrestorationadvice.com/hair-restoration-interview/index.shtml) hair transplant surgeon performing the hair restoration surgery and with (http://www.hairrestorationadvice.com/choosing-hair-restoration-clinics/hair-transplant-restoration-costs.shtml) affordable hair replacement.
Questions to consider when choosing your prospective hair transplant surgeon and clinic
Before and during your contact with your prospective (http://www.hairrestorationadvice.com/hair-restoration-interview/index.shtml) hair transplant surgeon and clinic, you need to look for signs and signals that this surgeon and clinic is capable of providing you with a quality result - a natural looking hair transplant. Unfortunately there are a number of clinics and surgeons out there that do poor quality work. Before, during and after the clinic interview there are some questions to ask yourself privately to try and reduce the risk of getting a hair transplant from a cowboy surgeon.

Quick Tips to Gain Muscle Mass
by: Indy Stewart
Packing on size is easy, as long as proper techniques are applied. Keep in mind that everyone has a different body type. Here are some tips to help you gain muscle mass.
#1 Weight Train
Train with heavy weights using less reps. Using appropriate weight, you should only be able to do 4-8 reps. Using heavy weights and low reps puts your muscles and nervous system under much more stress than using lighter weights for many reps. The rest time in between sets should be approximately 2 to 3 minutes.
#2 Eat more Calories
To gain mass, you should strive to eat around 18-20 times you body weight in calories. The extra calories are needed to build new muscles and to repair muscle tissue that is damaged during the heavy workouts. However, do not consume empty calories; go for foods which provide you with correct nutrients essential for gaining muscle.
#3 Eat more Protein
