Lose Weight: Sushi Is Your Friend
 by: Torino Rossi

If you’re not making sushi at home you’re missing out on a delicious and extremely diet-friendly meal. It’s easy to make, fast, nutritious, and the raw fish you’re afraid of is completely optional.

First let’s have a brief overview of sushi for those who’ve never had it or those who have tried it but want to know more.

Sushi is the catch-all name for a wide variety of Japanese dishes. The word sushi actually refers to rice with rice vinegar added. Since this is a very basic and lightly flavored food, it is the many ingredients added to it that really define what dish you are eating. The raw fish you have heard of is sashimi - an ingredient of many types of sushi - but you can create sushi with virtually any ingredient that goes with rice.

In America by far the most common type of sushi is Maki-sushi, or rice wrapped in seaweed. The seaweed is called nori and forms the green skin you can see around sushi pieces. For this reason maki-sushi are called nori rolls on many menus. Also popular is Nigiri-sushi, small bars of rice topped with wasabi and sashimi.

Physical Wellness: Our Most Precious Possession

Physical Wellness: Our Most Precious Possession
 by: Wendy Betterini

What would you consider to be your most precious possession? Your home? Car? Book collection? What about … your body? It is surely your most precious possession because without it, you wouldn’t be here.

How well do you care for your body? Do you exercise every day, eat healthful foods, drink enough water, get adequate sleep? Don’t worry, I’m not going to turn this into a big sermon, because I’ve been just as guilty of not giving my body the care and attention it deserves. A large majority of us are. We live in an age of high stress, fast pace, and abundant convenience foods. For those of us who only need to walk a few paces from our desk to the kitchen, the temptation for snacking is even greater. Who has time to exercise and prepare balanced meals?

However, it’s important to realize that neglecting our physical well-being can profoundly affect us mentally and spiritually. The Mind/Body/Spirit connection is strong. If we neglect one area, the others will suffer also. The goal should be to achieve a nice, even balance between all three. I’m learning that it’s not as hard as it seems. It just takes a little effort.

Easy Ways To Maintain Your Blood Glucose Levels

Easy Ways To Maintain Your Blood Glucose Levels
 by: Dennis Driscoll

Stabalizing Your Blood Sugar

One of the best ways to help stabilize your Blood sugar is a simple process called portion control.

I myself have tendency to eat to fast. The problem with eating too fast is simple you eat too much. I will elaborate, we all get an emotional high from eating, afterall who don’t like to eat.

By eating to fast we do not give ourselfves time to become full.

Slow Down

The next time you eat try this, chew your food and enjoy the taste. Make a consious effort and try to slow down when eating. We are most likely to overeat by eating to fast, because we don’t give our bodies time to get full.

Hold Off For That Second Helping

Another way to challenge yourself is this instead of reaching for that second plate as soon as your first plate is gone, wait just 10 minutes. I will bet that by waiting it will be much easier to say no to that second helping.

Just think what 10 minutes could do for your overall health, blood sugar and weight.

Your bodys pH

July 20, 2007

So what’s all the shake up about anyway?. To put it to you straight your body’s ‘’pH'’ is everything “Life Itself”. If you ask most people about ‘’pH'’ what do you think they associate it to?

With women chances are there subconscious has been programed with hair care and the importance of ‘’pH'’ for a fuller & stronger head of hair. Men’s associations are different, most men understand less about hair care, but more about ‘’pH'’ levels of water. A prime example would be a ’swimming’ pool man. His job is to check the ‘’pH'’ levels of the water, so it’s safe for others to swim.

An accurate association we all should adopt is the fish story! You may ask what’s the fish story all about? Well, Lets say you have a fish tank full of fish. One day you come home to find all your once healthy fish have died. What do you do? Get rid of the fish tank and buy a cat? Buy more fish and hope they live longer than the last ones.

Whats the answer?

How To Look Younger

How To Look Younger
 by: Blair Gwilt

Mankind has always had the query of how to look younger. Looking and feeling younger and living longer has been a perpetual longing of man. Since ages man has sought answer to the question of how to look younger and is still eagerly waiting for a befitting reply for it.

We all know that youth is transient. Yet we strive endlessly to achieve eternal youth. It is this striving, which has brought to our knowledge several ways and means to retard the process of aging and several more to transform our looks to a more youthful and appealing one.

Very often our appearance takes on an aged look even at a young age. This makes us feel depressed as we all wish to possess ageless beauty. However, we must not lose hope and begin a quest for finding materials and procedures to revitalize our skin and restore its lost youthful glow.

It may also be that our looks have actually turned aged in the natural course of bearing stress and strain over a number of years. Even then we may wish to don a younger look if possible. In this case too there begins the search for younger looks by us.

The Importance of Dust Masks

The Importance of Dust Masks
 by: Rick Pedley

If your job takes you to places where the air quality may be compromised, or if you undertake a project at home that exposes you to possible air contaminants, safety should be your number one priority. Humans take over 20,000 breaths a day on average, and air is something we can’t go without for more than a few minutes. Since avoiding harmful air may be impossible if you have to be in certain environments, steps must be taken to make breathing as safe as possible. A good dust mask could mean the difference between healthy breathing and permanent physical damage.

Exposure to dusts and other harmful materials in the air can lead to Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). COPD includes two major respiratory illnesses: chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Chronic bronchitis inflames the lung’s airways. When the body produces mucus to fight back, the airways become blocked and breathing becomes difficult. Emphysema destroys lung tissue and causes air pockets to form in the lungs. The lungs lose their ability to stretch during the inhale/exhale process, and as air becomes trapped in the lungs, you struggle to catch your breath. It’s clear that brief exposure to dangerous substances can result in a lifetime of labored breathing and respiratory problems. Investing in a high-quality dust mask could help you breathe easy for many years, even if you must work in environments where the air quality is poor.

Mesothelioma Diagnosis
 by: wesley exon

What Exactly Is Mesothelioma ?

Mesothelioma the medical name for cancer of the lung or the abdomen lining, and is usually caused by exposure to asbestos.

Asbestos is a type of building material used in thermal insulation products and ceiling tiles. Asbestos usage peaked during the 1950s - 1970s, but during the late 1960s, concerns over the health consequences of asbestos exposure began to arise, thereby decreasing the amount of asbestos manufactured over the following two decades. But even though new measures where brought in to get rid of it, many schools and public buildings still contain asbestos.

Small asbestos fibers that enter the air do not evaporate and can remain suspended in the air for a long time. These fibers, when breathed into the body, are toxic. The people most at risk are :-

People working in factories that manufacture asbestos are likely to have a high exposure to asbestos and are most at risk of developing asbestosis or mesothelioma.

Family members of workers exposed to asbestos in the workplace are susceptible to exposure from asbestos dust brought home by the worker on his clothes or skin.

Diabetes Awareness: Ill Wait til it Hurts

July 17, 2007

By the time many type 2 diabetics (and often their doctors) realize action is necessary, the disease, with its destructive high blood sugars, has been silently damaging their body for years.

Complications to the blood vessels and tissues of your eyes, feet, heart, kidneys, and other organs, are likely well underway.

You visit the doctor because you feel bad, and you wish to feel better. You react to the symptoms of perceived illness. This is understandable, but does not allow much room for prevention or early detection of diabetes.

Of course this idea, "Don’t see the doctor ’til it hurts," comes from our "busier-then-ever" lifestyles. But to blame, to point fingers after the damage has started is as pointless as is the leaping bungee-jumper’s complaint that his equipment has just failed. It’s a little late to talk about why. Some problems are better prevented.

If you have type 2 diabetes, you know most of the time you don’t feel very bad. You might think that because you don’t feel very bad, it isn’t very serious, and you don’t have to do anything about it just now. “I’ll wait ’til it hurts” …You couldn’t be more wrong.

Can You Live Without Chocolate?

Can You Live Without Chocolate?
 by: Eva Moffat

Is chocolate a craving with you? Are you a secret chocolate eater? Are you denying it even to yourself?

Research has shown that certain chemicals in the brain may cause the cravings.

So does having cravings make you addicted to chocolate? Are you a chocaholic?

The problem is that constantly telling yourself that you are addicted and therefore unable to help yourself is self-defeating. Whatever you tell yourself will if said often enough, make the subconscious mind believe what you are saying is the truth. Your subconscious mind does not reason it just accepts whatever it is told without question.

If you are addicted to chocolate, like any other addiction it is an illness, no different from being addicted to drinking, smoking, gambling or drug taking. Many homes have broken up because one of the partners has developed an addiction and this usually can quickly impoverish the family, as the addict has to keep finding the money to satisfy his or her addiction.

Can Being Addicted To Chocolate Harm You?

What if you are addicted to chocolate? What harm can it do you?

BREATHE For Your Own Good
 by: Nymph Kellerman

During the last few decades, Western Universities have become interested in the various techniques of deep relaxation and the effects it has on the body. During a deeply relaxed state, the heart rate slows down, there is a lowering in blood pressure, a decrease in oxygen consumption, a reduction in the blood lactate (high levels are associated with anxiety), and last but not least, the electrical activity of the brain changes. In recent years it was discovered that the brain has the ability to change its vibrations and in doing so, changes behaviour as well as involuntary functions of internal organs.

The largest part of the brain is called the cerebral cortex and it comprises about 80% of the brain. It is concerned with our conceptual thinking and motor functions. It houses a number of lobes with overlapping thinking, sensory and memory tasks. For our purpose we need to be aware of the two cerebral hemispheres (almost like two separate brains), connected to each other by the corpus callosum (an intricate web of fibres). These hemispheres are largely responsible for different intellectual functions.
